P6, M3, D2

When the user opens up the app this is the first page they will see. This is the homepage I chose this as my homepage as it provides all the necessary information for the app for existing users and new users as it features the main content titles of the website.  It shows the top rated jokes of all time top of the week, the top users which would be users with the most traffic and highest ratings. The newest videos would be featured videos or well rated videos and newest memes would usually be a photo or a GIF. It is a simple design hut effective as the main purpose of the app is to be convenient and causal so it is easier to look at the main features on one page rather the having to scroll and click all the time. There is a navigation bar at the top for the app which is used to go to different pages such as videos.

This next page is the user’s profile. Here the user can post info about themselves and other people can rate their profiles content out of 5 which will be displayed on their account. It also shows what they have posted and how many times. Users also have their own unique profile picture they choose form to be recognised in the community. The users feed will show videos they have shown interest in themselves by leaving feedback etc. on it and also shows their own content creation whether it be a meme or a video or a joke.

P5 - A, B, C, D, E , M2, D1

P5 – A - Purpose
The overall purpose to my social media website will be for user interaction and humour. The website Is based around making and rating peoples submitted jokes. It is effectively a website where users can talk to each other as well as submit jokes and rate them. The website will allow people to submit certain jokes to a wide variety of forums which feature types of jokes. Users profiles will also feature their unique profile picture as well as any information about themselves if they wish to post it. Users have a friend list, following list and a followers list. They add friends of people they know or personally want to interact with regularly whereas the followers will be people who want to either comment on their jokes or rate them out of 5*. The overall mission for the website is to connect people together out of their sense of humours and interact with likeminded people who have the same interests.

Some jokes will be ones what are already known but then others will be user created content which adds originality to the website. Users can also upload “memes” which are funny internet captions followed by a photo and they can also upload funny videos if it is their own created content. There will be some content which will have age restrictions depending on how offensive or sensitive the joke so that younger audience members can be shielded away from some content. Users can also post about of topic things in certain sections or on their own page for other people to see also whether it be an annoyance about a certain joke or just something funny in their day.

I decided to create this type of website due to their only being one other significant joke website on the internet but the only problem with that website is it is mainly offensive jokes whereas this website will have categories and sub calories so that users can easily find a type of joke they’re looking for. The top rated jokes of the day/week/month/year/all time will be displayed on the home page and will have been rated by the community. Also users are able to negatively rate jokes listing them as either not funny, too offensive or not making sense.

It’s purely an entertainment website and is generally all relating to satire and humour and intends to pose no seriousness to its content. It will mainly be used to kill time and post humorous content.

P5 – B – Content M2

The website will provide facilities for users to: upload their own content whether it be a photo, text or a video(including links). The content what is uploaded will be posted to a certain category e.g. a joke about the US presidency falling into the US politics category and a random unrelated meme to any topic being placed in the “random humour” section. Users are able to submit their own content for everybody else to see due to the best and worst content being posted to the main homepage for people to rate and comment on. Users are able to view all jokes which are featured in categories A-Z and then look at people’s profiles where their own jokes and content is posted.

People are able to make their own personal accounts to submit and rate content while interacting with users via comment sections and personal messaging. On these personal profiles they can write a short bio and have a display picture. Their content is also rated out 5* underneath their picture so that when they post a comment or some content users can already distinguish if their content is good by looking at their rating which is decided by averaging what other people have rated them. The most popular users including admins and moderators will be display on the homepage as top users.

Users have the ability to message each other and rate people’s jokes which allows them to comment also. An ethical issue would be cyberbullying or online harassment. To prevent this users can block a user from viewing their profile or contacting them at all which will protect themselves.

Another ethical issue is people being offended by certain content posted by other users. Users can do what they first did and block the user or they can do another two things. They can report the post for being offensive but due to the nature of the site it would only be reported and taken down if it was illegal or particularly offensive. Another way users cannot see certain things they find offensive is by filtering. They can filter types of jokes and categories of jokes so that they see the ones they want to see and not the ones they would be offended by.

Security is also a big issue in apps and it is the developers job to keep users data safe from hacking. Users need to create a username and password to rate comment and create content. This provides the user with the ability to keep their posts and content safe. After 5 attempts of an incorrect password the user will be emailed to be informed that somebody has tried to access their account and suggests a password reset. This will prevent legal issues such as hacking and will also allow the company to keep data in a secure server room which complies with the data protection act 1998.

Another way to tackle the legal issue of phishing is by having The applications source code and designs carried out internally and create from scratch and will not be suing open source software or coding to be created as there are coding experts who know ins and outs of certain open source software and would be able to replicate the exact design of the website and use this to their advantage by tricking users into thinking they were on the official site and could result in them phishing for personal details such as bank details or their actual user name and password. If a mass of users came into trouble it would be the company who take the blame by cutting corners to create the app using third party sources rather than doing it themselves so it is better to spend a bit more money to create it all by the developers themselves rather than outsourcing to another company.

P5 – C – Target User/ Membership M2

The target audience to my website is quite broad. It is aimed at anybody who enjoys their humour as liking jokes is not specific to age. Some jokes and topic of jokes may appeal to others but the entirety of the website is aimed towards both genders and all ages. Some jokes will be offensive so people under the age of 16 will be able to access these jokes and can only be accessed using an 18year old+ account.

It may be aimed at all ages but not everybody has the time to view the app so it will be aimed at people who have spare time to casually browse the website rather than having to be on it every single day. Also its aimed at both genders but to my own knowledge from other joke websites many of the members are males rather than females which may sway some jokes appealing to males more. The websites design will not be complex and will rather be simple so that everybody is able to navigate through it no matter how good their skills are with the internet.

Facebook is number one leading social network with the most members and that focuses mainly on posting statuses and photos which is similar to my website which potentially means it could gather quite an audience due to it having similar features to the biggest social networking website.

The bulk of the audience will be casual users who will regularly scroll down the home feed a few times a day while they’re bored or waiting or even just to pass the time. A casual audience relating to all ages will easily be related to the purpose of the website as people who are just scrolling through the page leisurely will find the content appealing as there will be no thought or long paragraphs or any real thought needed for the content it will just be humorous content which is easily skimmed through which allows the audience to feel connected to the site as it is designed for them and their needs. It will allow this large but niche audience to connect with each other via humour and their mutual interests of being casual when it comes to social networking.

P5 – D – Production - M2
BUDGET TIMESCALES
On the internet i found a website which allowed you to enter all the components anf fe3ature etc of the app and then produce the overall cost. with the app  budgeting website it estimated that my app budget would be $62,400 to create. However due to post creation more money would be needed to market it etc so realistically would be $70,000 to create and market. Publishing the app would be a different budget all together as what is in each app depends on how much google and apple would charge. It is unknown how much the app would cost due to it being different for each app but it would be no more than another $30,000

Launch date
The launch date for my app would be at the start of autumn around September 1st-2nd. I thought it would be a bad idea to launch in summer as many people will be busy in their summer being out or on holiday rather than sitting at home looking at an app so it would result in slow traffic to start off with. I have chose to launch in autumn so that people can start to look at it once everybody stops going out for summer. It is also close to winter also so many people would be upgrading or getting new devices for Christmas or birthdays which would further increase traffic
.

P5 – E – Possible Revenue Streams - D1
The possible revenue streams I can use for my website would be paid advertising and users paying for premium features. Ads would feature at the top side and bottom of website so that users can still have a smooth experience without having to close pop up ads all of the time. Users can use paid services which feature their profiles on the homepage so that other members can click on their profile and view their content. The fee won’t be too expensive so it will be affordable to most users. Users can also link their own websites also for another fee. The fee will be instalments rather than a one-time payment. Companies can also feature their external pages on the website such as linking articles videos etc to their website which will generate income. This could also potentially create a partnership such as using another websites video hosting servicing to prevent this website having to create their own they can instead outsource to this website and it will benefit both companies. This revenue will allow the app to release updates and feature more content etc.

The data entered by users to create their accounts will have to be kept safe. To do this various firewalls and hacking protection servers will be in place to prevent any personal data being stolen to be used for illegal use such as identity theft or wiping peoples credit cards. So this is protected users have a unique user and password so that people are not able to get into their accounts. A physical server will also have to be protected as that contains all the data on.
Legal and Ethical Issues:

Firstly an ethical issue could be content submitted by users which may be found to be highly offensive or profound to certain people and audiences. Due to freedom of speech the hate cannot be acted upon unless directly being threatening so there will be blocks in place tell users that they may find the content sensitive.

A legal issue could be relating to the content posted such as a confidential video or revealing someones details etc which would not comply with the data protection act or computer misuse act.

another ethical issue could be users arguing and posting negative comments on each others profiles which could result in the community abusing the comment system. This is ultimately cyber-bullying and could lead to more serious circumstances.

Some videos which are stolen or copyrighted and not uploaded by the rightful owner will be removed to comply with copyright laws.

P4 A, B, C, D, M1

First Idea: Joke website - JokesOnYou
P4 – A - Purpose
The purpose of this website will be for users interacting with each other using their sense of humour. The websites purpose is to allow users to submit their own created content such as written jokes, memes, videos and much more.  The website would be created for entertainment and humour and to kill some time as there is no real seriousness to the website and can be leisurely browsed via the internet. People can rate jokes and content in whatever category they are a part.
The overall mission statement for the website would be: “Connecting people of all ages, races, genders, religion and much more through their love of a good joke” It would not be restricted in anyway to a certain group
P4 – B - Format/Style
The website would let users upload their own content to share with other members of the website. There will be joke categories and let other users rate the quality of the joke to whether it is funny or not. Users can interact with each other through comment sections and private messages effectively making it a social media network. It will be styled like a social media website and the news feed in sites such as facebook would be filled with jokes
P4 – C – Target User/ Membership
The target audience for my website relates to anybody who enjoys humorous content. It is not specific to age but there will be age categories for over and under 18 year olds.  It is aimed for both genders as some jokes will be more appealing to a certain gender. The audience will mainly be a casual one who have time to just scroll through their phone when they have a minute. The audience will also have to be people who can take a joke as there will be some offensive jokes which may be sensitive to people. People who have time to kill or enjoy jokes or any other humorous content will be interested in this as the only other apps which focus on ti are face books user posted videos and Instagram videos which will not appeal to some people who may not want these social media accounts

P4 - D - Mock Up
Homepage and Profile Page

This is the homepage and features 4 categories on the scroll down menu and a navigation bar which stays at the top of the page even when scrolled. The first section has the top videos of the day which can be navigated through with the arrows on the screen. The next category shows the top voted jokes which can be scrolled through in the box. The final box shows popular users and allows the user to click on other users profiles. If the user clicks the title of any of the categories they will be taken to that dedicated page. The navigation bar at the top is used to create a new post or go to the users created account.
This is the users account page and shows all the posts you/they have liked, what they have posted, who they follow and who follows them and when they were last active. It allows other users to interact with them and see their interests. They also have a unique profile so that they can be identified by the community.

Second Idea: Outfit rating app - Window-shopper

P4 – A - Purpose

The purpose of my social media app will be to showcase your clothes and outfits. Users will create profiles and post photos of clothing items showcasing where they had got it from and what brand it is etc. Users interact with each other on each other’s posts leaving feedback and opinions on the items. Users can also follow other users to keep track on their posts and can also message them privately. There will also be clothing companies showing their own clothes off and celebrity endorsements also.

P4 – B - Format/Style

The social media will be available in web form and app form. The app would work well in both forms to whatever would fit the user better as some prefer aps over computers and vice versa. A broader platforming would make a more accessible app for the audience and have the potential to grow it more. The layout will be simple with basic photos and text being featured rather than lots of unneeded features. The display of the page will be tidy not cluttered so it has a professional look to it and also feature a colour scheme which will be used throughout

P4 – C – Target User/ Membership

The audience will be fashion enthusiasts and people looking for new clothes to buy and to look at what is currently trending on the market. There will not be a membership fee but there will be ads around the app to generate revenue and to keep the website going rather than having users pay for ads. The users will be people who like shopping and are savvy with designer brands etc. sharing their outfits for the worlds and their followers to see. The users will link their items to websites where they got it from but these websites will have to pay the app developers for their site to feature on the app.
P4 - D - Mock Up
This app has a navigation bar at the top for different pages of the website and on this homepage screenshot it shows 4 boxes featuring top rated outfits, featured users,m newest looks and outfit of the day. It is a simple design which is easily navigated by users.

In the screenshot above which is the account page it shows all the published outfits from the user. Also shows comments from other users, the profiles overall rating given by other users and shows who they follow and who follows them.

P3 - A, B, C

P3 Learners explore commercial uses for social media products
P3 – A – Advertising
Facebook is the most popular social networking website and is the main go-to for people who want to market their products or websites etc. Advertisers will create titles with action words to attract people to click their link. These advertisers will then generate themselves income as traffic will be directed to their website; ultimately paying Facebook to make more money as the outcome of doing so. These ads are usually pay-per-click and generate the user around 79p per click from user. These ads always will be on the timeline or to the side of the page for users.
Twitter also allows people to advertise their products by users being able to promote their tweets. These promoted tweets usually appear on people’s twitter feeds due to their browsing habits or can even just appear on the twitter explore page for everybody to see. The advertisers will aim to create a tweet which will be re-tweeted by people so that their followers will then see the tweet and then maybe also click on the link. Twitter used to be known for the high cost of putting ads on the website but has been made easier due to the promote tweets option. This is also a pay-per-click service and generates users around 55p per click. For snapchat they use various types of advertising such as filter advertisements which is an effect which goes over the users face and displays a brand name e.g captain Morgans using the well known pirate beard and hat on the users head and face. They also have video advertisements which will play every so often while browsing snapchat stories and news articles.

In my personal experience I am used to many paid ads being plastered around social media pages and being a hassle when you accidentally click on it and have to spend your time waiting for a new web page to load to then just delete all while your mistake of a click pays the advertiser.
Social medias also display many sponsored links which are created due to the users browsing history. In some terms of websites such as amazon they can pass their users browsing habits onto their social networks and display them as ads. The purpose of this is to make the user be interested in the advertised product as they have recently been searching for it and it can result in them clicking the link and buying the product.

Here are some examples of the advertisments featured on these social medias. (click to enlarge)

Facebook:

Twitter:

Snapchat:

P3 – B – Viral Marketing
Viral marketing is a marketing technique which use existing social networks to produce interest in their own products by pushing certain details whether its new stock or a sale etc. potential consumers see this as an ad or a link they’ve found online and they will then share it themselves if they find it interesting enough. Many of today's viral marketing come in video form but there are many eBooks games images and even just simple text to get these viral ads across but video is the main one as that is what currently dominates social media. This viral marketing can bring in new customers and put them in the spotlight for a few weeks if the ad is popular enough.

Viral ads usually do the best on the video sharing website YouTube but the second in line is Facebook which is where many ads perform well and achieve their goal of gathering an audience to buy into their product. There are many viral ads which circulate all the time but some stick out and remain in peoples heads. Many of these ads can just be simple and relatable to people in general. For example there was a facebook ad for a charging cable but didn't have the standard wire material so therefore made it appealing as it was innovative and racked up 283,000 shares and 41 million clicks to the items website.

A new feature for snapchat with viral ads is a new deal signed with Time Warner where their productions will show mini clips on snapchat so that the viewer will be interested in the clip and become a fan of what is being shown. It makes it unique as it will be 10 second clips just like peoples normal snapchats to each other.

A viral instagram/facebook trend was the hashtag "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge" where people shared videos of pouring cold water and ice on their heads and then donating to the charity which was researching the cure. As a result the cure was found due to all the money donated.
P3 – C – Product/ Service Reviews

Customer reviews of products are viewed as very helpful to uncertain users but not all view them. Customers are able to post reviews on products or servicing to help assist other in them enquiries. The most popular example is trip advisor which lets the users comment on hotels, restaurants and attractions they have visited and they suggest it or don’t suggest it to other users. It can be seen as good as if the review is positive it puts a company in positive light and can help generate income and seem more trustworthy to other customers. However, some customers abuse these review websites and writer what they want sometimes just for fun or it can be rival companies or they can be attacking to a group of people or a business and could lead to damaged reputation even if a review was completely made-up. These review websites are all well and good but now the likes of facebook have introduced their own which allows users to rate places such as restaurants and bars and even the likes of schools and venues etc. This allows also the business to reply to user reviews and post on their review page also which keeps everybody informed and connected. This is mainly a facebook feature personally reviewing things but on other social medias allow users to hashtag or geolocate where they have been.

P2 – Analyse the positive and negative social effects of social media products

P2 – Analyse the positive and negative social effects of social media products

Primary Research

In my primary research I have included some of my own opinions about the positive and negatives and then I will feature a questionnaire see what other people think of it also.

Firstly I think they can be positive as it allows introverts to be able to express themselves as it can be beneficial for people who can struggle in social situations with disorders such as anxiety. Due to them being behind a screen and not face to face with these random people they can feel more comfortable and confident. Online relationships such as friendships can give people confidence to then mirror that same confidence in physical situations rather than just behind a screen.

Social Medias can also be very negative however. Many people can be shamed for things they have done on these websites such as fights getting posted or a bad picture which is shared all around people’s phones and computers. People can also screenshot messages or profound photos and share them round which can ultimately destroy someone’s reputation or confidence and in extreme cases lead them to depression or even suicide.

For my primary research looking into the positive and negative effects I have conducted a questionnaire which asks people various questions about social media so I can have other people’s inputs who are around me also.

Another positive aspect is that businesses and people are able to share ideas across these networks which saves physical meetings or can help market peoples products easily. People can show people ideas for new technology for people to invest in by clicking their external links.

Another negative is trolling. Many people can troll people online which can be either classed as bullying them or just trying to mess with them by doing things such as constantly annoying them or pretending to be stupid which will infuriate the person they are trying to troll.

A lot of private info is always publicised on social media now which can result in people running the risk of having this used against them whether it be where they live or an embarrassing photograph. Also people who keep using social medias will decrease how productive they are in the day as the time they spend on social media could be spent doing something more useful.

These are the questions I asked 20 people:

What is your gender?

How old are you?

What is your favourite social media?

Do you find social media to be a positive thing or more of a negative thing?

Do you often see offensive content when using social media?

Do you find social media to be a positive thing or more of a negative thing?

What do you use social media for the most?

Have you ever had a bad experience when using social media? If yes explain

What’s your favourite thing about social media?

How long do you spend on social media a day?

How many social Medias do you use regularly?

The results of the questions are posted in bar form below and the answers will be analysed.

In conclusion of this conducted questionnaire I have founded that out of the 20 people I have asked most enjoy Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook, all of which share videos, photos and have messaging features. Only a few have experienced bad situations which can show they have either not been cyberbullied or an attempt to was not bad enough to be classed as a bad situation as a hurtful message in the modern day of social networking is classed as the norm and not an abnormality. Also I have had a fair questionnaire range due to the different ages and genders featured which makes the data more trustworthy. It was 50/50 when asked if social media was a more positive or negative thing which may show that some users experience difficulty and negative situations when using it such as cyberbullying. It was also 50/50 on whether people see offensive content or not when using social networking which may link to how people view social media as positive or negative. Most people also said they use social media to talk to friends which means they are using it for sociable reason which is positive instead of a negative reason such as bullying. Others said they use it to look at internet memes which are funny captions and pictures so they use it for humour but then in some cases some memes are purposely offensive to people which could be classed as a form of cyberbullying. Many also have had bad experiences due to people they don’t know messaging them on these social medias. Most found social media to be more positive but 70% said they see offensive content when using social media. There was also a range of answers when regarding how long people use social media a day for but the most popular answer was 3-4 hours. Most people use 3 social medias also. In conclusion of my research most people enjoy social media but do find offensive things there but t mainly uses it to socialise with people rather than cause trouble.

Secondary Research

BBC Article:

A survey founded that 37% of girls questioned in CREST Girls academy in London were sleep deprived as a result of using social networking sites. This may just be one school but in the broad spectrum if 37% of all girls where sleep deprived and there are over 8 million pupils in schools in the UK that means that many of them would also be sleep deprived. If the students are sleep deprived it will have a negative effect on their school work and mental functions as a result which shows that social networking can be bad if used excessively.

The article also highlights that cyberbullying is a problem which can be related back to my primary research as many said they have seen offensive content on social media which can relate to people being purposely bullied online in forms of video or text and can be shared around. The article shows that social networking can be a big problem as the cyberbullies can only be stopped if they’re reported or blocked but many victims are reported of not doing this out of intimidation or being scared.

It also highlights that it can ruin relationships due to people getting jealous over messages or getting jealous if their boyfriend or girlfriend likes somebody else posts online. It can also be negative as people can waste away their lives using it instead of doing something useful like being in a job or education or focusing on more serious matters.

However aside the negatives the article also shows how it can be a positive thing also. It allows people to express themselves and show off their interests or style of clothes etc. People can also post their feelings online too rather than bottle it up. It also says it’s easier to keep in touch with family and friends who you may not see so often.

Tech Bead Article:

Tech bead say that social networking is good for businesses and companies to market their products as TV and radio demand money to advertise where as its completely free to do it on social media unless you are promoting your page. It is saying its positive for businesses as it lowers their marketing costs by a lot of money.

It says social networks have removed the communication barrier between people and people can now privately talk about things without other people being able to know what is being said. It allows people to share thoughts and feelings and opinions with likeminded people on many social medias such as fan groups etc.

This particular article may be more positive but it still features some negative points. It highlights that the things posted to these social networking sites can influence children and teenagers to do certain things as there are many videos of crimes and violence posted to these sites and can impact society as it can result in people viewing them to then involve themselves in that kind of activity.

Finally it says users can share too much information and can leave them feeling vulnerable due to people being able to blackmail them with personal information. Info like this can be leaked to other sites to people who may want to pursue you in real life and can create many problems for people such as stalking.
